It is no trade secret that some basic modifications and (perhaps) new pickups can make even a 'cheap' guitar sound and play like a much more expensive instrument.

With experience from playing 100s of guitars, amps and guitar effect units over the years he knows quite a bit about tone and how to get it. He personally has over 10 Strat style guitars all wired differently and sounding surprisingly different to each other!
